Examples of work from Class 6LW

Year 6's termly assembly was about figurative language. The children have written some fabulous poetry using similes, metaphors and personification.

We do hope you enjoy reading them.

The  House Awakes

The noisy house was startled by the alarm clock yelling,

Door yawned, mouth wide opened, the windows blinked sleepily,

Showers weeping,

Toilets gurgle,

Brushing the dirt off the golden cup,

Cereal jumping into the bowl, and milk spilling.

Kettle whistling to warm the water,

 Flying pans splutter and spit.

Pack lunches gather together,

And grab the food from the kitchen.

 T.V murmuring on and on,

The car screeches and growls,

The children run away.

The house was finally quiet and calm.

The Car Monster

It sleeps in a lair,

 Pitch black,

Waiting for his leader to take him out for a walk,

The sun rises and the owner collects him.

He starts with a nasty growl,

A chesty cough then a gentle purr,

And out they go, like a dog going out for a run in the park.

He is thirsty and out of energy,

In he goes to the cafe for a coffee,

To keep him going for the day,

 And after the last sip,

 Off he goes again.

Muddy and dirty, he needed to have a shower,

Inside, he had a rinse, then a shampoo,

 After a final wash,

 He arrived back, gleaming white.

He spots another Jaguar beside him,

 Boasting, thinking he's faster,

But he growls and shoots off into the distance,

 Like a bullet, not caring.

As night passes, like passing traffic,

 He gets tired,

So he returns back to his lair,

 Left by his owner,

And kept beside all the junk,

 Ready for the next day.

The River

The river tumbles down the rocky mountain

And dashes towards the sea

Like an athlete in a race.

The river slithers quietly through the forest

Like a shadow waiting patiently for the rain.

Then there's the torrent rushing from the sky

Water escaping from its path

Flooding the land.

The River

The river was a sparkling river, across the land

It rushes past like an athlete racing.

Tumbling stones, like baby monkeys playing.

It creeps like a hunting panther to the sea.

A slithering snake around the

Towns and countryside.
