Dancing in the 1960s

Mr Long taught Class 3/4SH how to do 'The Twist' and some children demonstrated the dance in celebration assembly on Friday!

 

 

Music in the 1960s

Last week we talked about music from the 60s, and listened to some 'Beatles' songs. We listened to 'Hippy Hippy Shake' by the 'Swinging Blue Jeans', and sang 'Hi Ho Silver Lining' by Jeff Beck.

This week we have already listened to 'Apache' by the Shadows, and have started to learn 'Downtown' by Petula Clark and 'Help!' by the Beatles.

The First Man in Space

On April 12th, 1961, Yuri Gagarin from Russia, became the first human to travel into space in Vostok 1. He landed safely, but died in a plane crash in 1968.

The First Moon Landing

Neil Armstrong and 'Buzz' Aldrin were the first men to walk on the Moon. They landed there on July 20th, 1969. Click here to find out more about the Apollo 11 mission.

England lift the World Cup in 1966.

England win the World Cup!

In 1966, England won the World Cup, by beating Germany, 4 - 2.

 

The Berlin Wall

One summer morning in 1961, Berliners awoke to a makeshift barricade, the Berlin Wall, separating the two sides of the city. The first barbed wire fences were rapidly followed by even more sinister concrete structures, isolating Berlin ’s symbol, the Brandenberg Gate. It eventually came down in 1989.
