The 1950s

Music from the 1950s

We listened to some songs sung by Lonnie Donegan, including 'My Old Man's A Dustman' and 'Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its' Flavour On The Bedpost Overnight?'

We also sang 'How Much Is That Doggy In The Window?' and 'The Laughing Policeman', both popular children's songs from the 1950s. Elvis had to be included in our look at 1950s music, so we also sang 'Hound Dog' and 'Blue Suede Shoes'!

Toys in the 1950s

The Bayko construction toy was marketed from 1934 until 1967. Bayko was manufactured from bakelite, and was one of the earliest 'plastic' toys to be marketed.

Mr Harris kept his Bayko that he had in the 1950s and made a model house to show the children. Clever Mr Harris!
